Colin Orchard RBA
Tuesday 6th – Friday 9th June
Colin made his living as a graphic designer and at the age of 50 decided to pursue and develop his passion for oil painting. His early influences were Sickert, Bernard Dunstan and other tonal painters.
His work has been shown in many leading galleries throughout the U.K. including, on six occasions, the Royal Academy Summer exhibition. In 1994 Walker Galleries of Harrogate opened their Contemporary Gallery with a solo exhibition of his paintings. In 2007 he showed at the Medici Gallery in Cork Street, London.
Making boards used to be part of the course but now Colin provides full step-by-step written instructions on how to make them and all new students will be given a sample board to try.
Using photography as an aide-memoir is an important part of the tuition, together with the masking and cropping of the paintings.
Although there are opportunities for painting out of doors on the course, most painters on Colin’s previous courses preferred to work together in the studio. Colin gives both demonstrations and individual tuition. It has proved to be a stimulating course for both beginners and the more experienced painter.
